Kona coffee is among the finest coffee in the world and it’s the only coffee that’s grown right here in America! I’ve had the pleasure of meeting so many fantastic people who came to the islands of Hawaii just to indulge in our world, famous Hawaiian grown Kona, coffee! What makes Kona beans so unique in flavor is their ideal farming conditions. Our beans are grown on the lush slopes of manua loa and thrive in a rich year round tropical climate combined with the highly packed nutrients in volcanic soil. Our Kona farm is located on the big island and our highly skilled Roasters prepare the harvest before sending it directly to us!
The Kona trees.
Preparing the land to grow a coffee farm takes a lot of craft but the island blesses us with an abundance of coffee fruit each year! new coffee trees take three years to produce a harvest. Did you know that each tree only produces a couple pounds of fruit? our farmers on the big island are extremely skilled to hand pick only the ripest red cherries for harvest, where they are bagged and sent to a mill for sorting again to ensure only the finest cherries are selected.
The process.
The Kona cherry seeds (which are better known as the beans) are then sun-dried between 9 to 12 days– this process is a constant chore of turning and raking to ensure quality and exquisite flavor! Once they are dried, our beans are aged for two months. Now it’s time to remove the outer husk during this phase of harvesting. Any defective beans are discarded again! This will determine the most healthy and finest grade beans to yield that highly recognize unique Kona, flavor of sweet cocoa, cherry and brown sugar– are most loved Makahiki blend. The next part you got it! Our beans are shipped directly to us and we’re spreading aloha one cup at a time .
Makaiki in ancient Hawaiian times means “celebrate the years harvest.” To rest spend time with family and friends and to bring thanks to the Hawaiian God for bringing life. Blessings and peace to Hawaii
