Education and Experience

Kayleen (pronounced Kay-Leen) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a certified TF-CBT (Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy) therapist. Before pursuing a career in psychotherapy, Kayleen spent several years working in residential youth programs and unaccompanied children’s shelters. This was where she discovered how her strengths and passions align with clinical social work. She went on to receive her MSW in 2017 from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Kayleen began her clinical work in community mental health as an Intensive Home-Based Therapist, and has been working in outpatient mental health in North Carolina since 2019.

Kayleen is Level One trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS), certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT), and a registered Circle of Security Program facilitator.

Kayleen has experience helping people overcome a variety of challenges, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma symptoms, life changes, and daily stresses. In her work with children, Kayleen is passionate about understanding the whole child and discovering the feelings and needs beneath their behavior while supporting caregivers in this process. Kayleen also enjoys working with teenagers and young adults who need additional support navigating life transitions, identity formation, and evolving relationships.

Kayleen’s approach to treatment is trauma-informed, strength-based, inquisitive, and empathetic. In addition to her training in IFS and TF-CBT, Kayleen utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness strategies, and parent management training. Kayleen also enjoys incorporating artistic expression, play, and narrative techniques into her practice. Kayleen believes that therapy should be a collaborative effort and looks forward to partnering with you to help you gain insight, develop skills, build on your strengths, and make meaningful changes.

About the Provider

Kayleen is an experienced traveler who has spent years living abroad and traveling solo across the globe. When she is home, she enjoys immersing herself in podcasts and books, challenging her body through hiking and weight lifting, quieting her mind through a variety of artistic projects, and connecting to herself through writing. Her two cats, Lupin and Tonks, sometimes make an appearance in video sessions.
